Here the relation is related to direct variation. So if we have to relate x and y with direct variation, we can state it like y = k x , where k is the constant of proportionality.

We have the point given that is (-10,-17). Here x=-10 and y=-17 . So we substitute this point in y=k x and solve for x. That is ,

-17 = -10k

[tex] k = \frac{-17}{-10}= \frac{17}{10} [/tex]

So the required equation is

[tex] y = \frac{17x}{10} [/tex]
